アデレード: Guide



アデレード (Adelaide) は、南オーストラリア州最大の都市であり、同州の州都である。整然と整備された碁盤の目状の道路を持つシティーとその周辺に広がる美しい公園は、誰の目にも印象的である。バロッサ・バレー、ビクター・ハーバーといった観光地へ日帰りで往復可能なほか、カンガルー島やクーバー・ぺディーといった州内の見所へ向かう際の基点ともなる都市である。

地区


アデレード (Adelaide)
:通常シティー (City) と呼ばれるアデレードの中心業務地区。おおよそ一辺2kmの正方形に収まっており、周囲は公園に囲まれている。
ノース・アデレード (North Adelaide)
:トレンス川 (River Torrens) をはさんでシティーの北側に位置する高級住宅街。メルボルン・ストリート (Melbourne Street) は洒落たブティックやレストランなどが集まることで知られる。またモンテフィオーレ・ヒル (Montefiore Hill) からはシティーが一望でき、特に夜景は美しい。
グレネルグ (Glenelg)
:シティーから南西に10kmあまり、アデレードで最も人気のあるビーチを擁し、夏季には多くの観光客で賑わう。シティーからトラムで30分。
ポート・アデレード (Port Adelaide)
:シティーから北西約14kmに位置する港湾施設を中心とする地区。港湾労働者の減少からやや寂れた印象は否めないが、歴史的な建造物を残している。シティーから列車で20分。
アデレード・ヒルズ (Adelaide Hills)
:アデレード東部、マウント・ロフティー山脈 (Mt. Lofty Range) 以東の地域で、緑豊かな丘陵地帯に小さな町が連なる。シティーからバスで30-40分程度。
マクラーレン・ヴェイル (McLaren Vale)
:シティーから約40km、アデレード南部に位置するワインの生産地。シティーからビクター・ハーバー方面行きプレミア・ステートライナー (Premier Stateliner) の長距離バス (Metro Ticketは使用不可) で1時間。もしくは列車に乗りノアルンガ線の終点ノアルンガ・センター (Nourlunga Centre) でバス751/752系統に乗り換えて1時間15分。

アデレードは、南オーストラリア州の州都として1836年より建設が始まった。水の確保が容易なマーレー河河口付近を州都にする案もあったとされるが、調査隊長 (Surveyor-General) であったコロネル・ウィリアム・ライト (Colonel William Light) は肥沃な平地が広がり、海港が近郊に建設できるトレンス川沿いを州都の建設地に決定し、碁盤の目上の道路に広場や公園を配したシティーを完成させた。当初はあまりにも広い道路や公園に不満を唱える者もあった。1938年の時点で南オーストラリア州の人口は6000人ほどだったためこれは無理も無いが、現在ではライトの先見性は「ライトの視野 (Light's Vision) 」として称えられている。なおアデレードという名前は英国王ウィリアム4世の妻の名前を取ったものである。

飛行機で


定期旅客便は中心部から西7kmに位置するアデレード空港 に発着する。2006年2月より全便が新ターミナルを使用するようになり、乗り換えの利便性は飛躍的に向上した。国内線は各州都への便に加えキャンベラ、ゴールドコースト、ケアンズ、アリス・スプリングスといった主要都市、およびクーバー・ぺディーやキングスコート (カンガルー島) など州内への短距離便が就航している。国際線はオークランド、デンパサール、シンガポール、クアラルンプール|クアラ・ルンプール、香港からの便が就航している。日本からはケアンズ、シドニー、メルボルンなどを経由するのが便利。アジアの都市を経由する場合、乗り継ぎ時間がいずれも長い。また入国審査官・税関職員の数が少ないため、到着から空港ロビーまでに最長2時間程度を覚悟したほうが良い。

空港からシティーへはジェットバス (JetBus) が15分間隔で運行、所要約20分。なおジェットバスの乗り場は到着階 (一階) ではなく出発階 (二階) にある。タクシーだとシティーまで約15分・A$15程度である。

列車で


アデレードに発着する長距離旅客列車は中心部から西2kmに位置するケズウィク駅 (Keswick Terminal) を使用する。ケズウィク駅へは中心部から近郊列車ないしバスで5-10分ほどである。インディアン・パシフィック(シドニー～ブロークン・ヒル～アデレード～パース)、ジ・オーバーランド（メルボルン～アデレード）、ザ・ガン(アデレード～アリス・スプリングス～ダーウィン)の各列車がそれぞれ週に数往復ずつ運転されている。

車で

バスで


長距離バスの大半はセントラル・バス・ターミナル (111 Franklin St. Adelaide) に発着している。他州からのバスはグレイハウンド・オーストラリア (Greyhound Australia) とファイアーフライ・エクスプレス (Firefly Express) が運行しており、シドニー (24時間)、メルボルン (10時間)、アリスス・プリングス (20時間) などへの便がある。州内のバスは中小のバス会社によって運営されており、Bus SA が路線図や時刻表をまとめて案内している。

公共交通機関

市内の交通機関はアデレードメトロ (AdelaideMetro) の愛称で呼ばれ、鉄道、トラム、バス (JetBusやO-Bahnを含む) が共通の切符 (Metro Ticket) で乗車可能となっている。空港や駅等で配布されているメトロガイド (MetroGuide) に詳細な路線図や切符、乗車方法の案内が収録されている。片道券 (Singletrip Ticket) は2時間有効で、曜日・時間帯によってA$3.50ないしA$2.10だが、旅行者には一日券 (Daytrip Ticket、A$6.60) が便利。学割運賃があるが、南オーストラリア州の学校に通うフルタイム学生のみに適用される。なお市の中心部を走るビー・ライン (Bee Line、99B系統)、シティー・ループ (City Loop、99C系統) など一部の系統は無料である。キング・ウィリアム・ストリート (King William St.) とカーリー・ストリート (Currie St.) の角にアデレードメトロのインフォメーション・センターがある。
グレネルグ・トラム
:シティーからグレネルグまでの11kmを結ぶ路線で、1929年より使われている旧型車両の活躍で知られる。所要時間は30分ほど。2006年より新車が投入されているが、旧型車5両が残され、週末を中心に運転される予定。
鉄道
:シティーの北部にあるアデレード駅から放射状に6路線があるが、このうち観光客に関係があるのはポート・アデレード方面に向かうアウターハーバー線 (Outer Harbour Line) と、ノアルンガ線 (Nourlunga Line) のみであろう。ノアルンガ線の終点ノアルンガからはマクラーレン・ヴェイル方面のバスがある。鉄道と上記トラムはトランスアデレード が運営。

アデレードには3つの大学があり、いずれも日本を含む多くの国から交換留学生を受け入れており、半年ないし一年間学ぶことが可能。語学学校や専門学校も多数ある。このほか州立図書館をはじめとする図書館や教会などの宗教団体が主催する安価な（もしくは無料の）語学講座もある。

気を付ける


ハインドリー・ストリート (Hindley St.) 周辺はナイトクラブ・パブが集まるため、夜間は治安面で不安がある。

バロッサ・バレー
:アデレードから車で北に1時間ほどのところにある。南オーストラリア州の主要なワイン産地のひとつとして知られており、多くのワイナリーやワインセンターなどの関連施設があるほか、ワインにちなんだツアーなどが催行されている。
ビクター・ハーバー
:アデレードから南に80kmほどのところにある、海岸沿いの町。近くのグラニット島と橋でつながっており、橋の上を馬が引くトラムが走っている。また、島内にはフェアリーペンギンの棲息地があり、ペンギンが行動する夕方から夜にかけてペンギンツアーが催行される。
マウント・バーカー
:アデレードの東側に接する町。ドイツ移民によって築かれた街、ハーンドルフもここにある。
